2017-18 SEASON OFL DRAFT POOLS
The selection order is based on each team's win-loss record in the previous season and whether the team reached the playoffs. Teams that did not reach the playoffs the previous season are ranked in reverse order of their records (thus the team with the fewest wins is awarded the first selection). Ties between teams with identical records are determined by the following tiebreakers (in order):
1. Strength of schedule, which is the combined win-loss record for all 16 of the team's opponents in the previous season (ties count as a half win and half loss). The team with the lower strength of schedule (i.e. their opponents compiled fewer wins) is granted the earlier pick in round one.
2. Division tiebreakers (if the teams are in the same division).
3. Conference tiebreakers (if the teams are in the same conference).
Teams that reached the playoffs the previous season are then slotted in the order in which they were eliminated AS INDICATED IN THE TABLE BELOW. Within each tier, the slotting is determined as above (i.e. worst record picks first and the same tiebreakers apply).
Non-playoff teams – 1-20
Eliminated Wildcard rounds - 21-24
Eliminated Divisional round - 25-28
Conference Runners-up - 29-30
SUPERBOLBG Runners-up – 31
SUPERBOLBG Winners – 32
An exception to this draft ordering occurs when new "rookie teams" are added to the OFL. A rookie team will occupy the draft placement based on the previous season performance of the team they are replacing.
There will be a total of 3 rounds to the draft. ALL teams will make a selection in each of the 3 rounds of the draft, unless a pre-agreed and confirmed trade between teams has been made prior to the draft resulting in a team losing their pick.
Round 1 of the Draft – Each team will make 1 picks on their turn. Pick from any pool.
Round 2 of the Draft – Each team will make 2 picks on their turn. Each pick has to be from a different ‘pool’ and CANNOT be from the same TEAM.
Your pick COULD be from the same team as a round 1 pick however.
Round 3 of the Draft – Each team will make 2 picks on their turn to fill their unoccupied places. No restrictions on team.
After the 3 rounds have been completed each team MUST have picked at least 1 team from EACH of the 5 pools, unless they have forfeited a pick in a trade.
In the event of a team being unable to be available to pick when the draft is ongoing, the Commissioner will invoke an automatic pick on behalf of the team. The automatic pick will be the highest ranked team still available from any available pool. Same rules regarding selections being from different pools within the round remain.
The Opening date of the Draft will be determined by the Commissioner with the agreement of the 32 franchises for availability. The date of the opening will be announced following the end of the current season on both OLBG.com and the official OFL website and will be determined to ensure that as many franchises can ‘attend’ the draft online. Any franchises that cannot attend will have their picks determined by the Commissioner.
Any issues with picks or problems with picks will invoke a 'pause' onto the draft by the Commissioner. The draft will be paused until rectified.
Franchises should make every effort to be at the draft.
Dates for subsequent rounds (2 & 3) will also be determined.
Once the Draft is ‘live’, the overall 1st pick team is ‘on the clock’.
If you cannot make the draft you can send the Commissioner your preferred picks prior to the draft being 'on the clock'. There are no guarantees that your preferred picks will be made as they may not be available once your turn is on the clock.
Each franchise should aim to make their picks as soon as the previous franchise have communicated their picks on the thread. Whilst there will be no time-limit to make picks, franchises should aim to make their picks without delay. If a franchise fails to make a pick in a reasonable time then the Commissioner will 'automate' the franchises picks by taking the 2 highest available draft picks from any of the 5 pools UNLESS the headcoach has already sent the Commissioner their preferred picks in which case the Commissioner will make every attempt to honour those pick preferences.
The commissioner will oversee the draft and update the draft pool availability as often as possible.
When calling picks each franchise will clearly state their picks on the thread as:
PICK 1: XXXXXXX? From POOL X
PICK 2: XXXXXXX? From POOL X
e.g.
DEVILIMP HELLDWELLERS takes:
PICK 1: Miami Dolphins from Pool 1
PICK 2: Dallas Cowboys from Pool 4
**ALL NEW** TRADES
With the advent of the new draft all teams now have the ability to trade draft picks for tactics cards. Franchises can approach other franchises and offer trades. This can be any combination of draft picks for any numbers of tactics cards.
All trades have to be ratified by the Commissioner. Trades are only valid for the following season draft.
E.g.
1. Ebook Texan Tartans approach the Devilimp Helldwellers. They offer to trade 1 offence card and 1 defence card in exchange for 1 1st round draft pick.
2. The Helldwellers accept the trade. The OFL commissioner accepts the trade
3. The following season sees the Texan Tartans occupying one of the Helldwellers 1st round draft picks in addition to their own 1st round draft picks.
4. The Helldwellers now have 1 extra offence card and 1 extra defence card for the following season. The Helldwellers can use an extra tactics card on any game of their choice.
5. The Texan Tartans have 1 less offence card and 1 less defence card for the following season
In any event, the Commissioners decision is final.
OFL draft rules are subject to change at any time.
